Landmannalaugar is a region near Hekla volcano in the southern area of the highlands and is a popular tourist destination and hiking hub in Iceland’s highlands. An area of varied shapes and forms with colorful rolling hills and mountains tinted by rhylolite minerals and obsidian post glacial lava flows. Almost invariably the starting point of the famous Laugavegur trekking trail, but also an ideal base for a variety of rewarding daylong or shorter hikes. The local natural geothermal pool and showers facilitate perfect relaxation at the end of the day.
Landmannalaugar is ideal for one day visits or extended stays. Camping facilities and sleeping bag accommodation in mountain cabins available.
