New Farmer''''s Market in Reykjavík

24.8.2009
Eggs, shellfish, duck fat, sun-dried cod, lettuce and other vegetables from all corners of the country are among products available at the farmers’ market Frú Lauga, which opened at Laugalaekur in Reykjavík last week.
“We try to offer products that we don’t see elsewhere,” Arnar Bjarnason, who runs the market with his wife Rakel, told Morgunbladid. However, conventional vegetables and meat products are also for sale.
Customers crowd the store and the neighborhood’s older residents are especially keen on shopping in Frú Lauga. The market offers seasonal products, which is why vegetables take up a large portion of its stands at the moment.
“Once the slaughter season starts we’ll get lamb and various products related to the meat. We are also expecting jams, horse sausages, skyr [a dairy product] and eggs from Icelandic hens,” Bjarnason said.
Frú Lauga is open Wednesdays through Saturdays. The other days are used for collecting products. The market is located on Laugalaekur 6, 105 Reykjavík, near the Laugardalslaug swimming pool.
